SUMMARY:Onboarding and Nurturing Junior Designers
DESCRIPTION:More and more employers are posting openings for UX designers — often with 3 or more years of experience. This makes the job hunt frustrating for junior designers in need of a foot in the door\, and employers could be missing out on talent eager to grow and learn. At the same time\, employers may not have the resources available to grow and nurture junior designers to be productive team members. \n\n\n\nSo what does it take to onboard and nurture new designers? What steps can employers and junior designers take to create a symbiotic relationship? \n\n\n\nOur panel of experts discussed these topics and more.

SUMMARY:Ethics in UX Design presented by GA x Mathys + Potestio
DESCRIPTION:It’s no easy feat designing a good user experience. But it is even harder to design one that doesn’t nudge users down a path that’s in the interest of a company. Such dark patterns\, coupled with a designer’s unconscious bias\, are incompatible with human-centered design. We should be careful that business objectives do not get in the way of the principles of ethics. \n\n\n\nIn recent years\, many ethical gaps have been exposed. From uncontrollable propaganda on Facebook to unwanted surveillance and data collection\, the systems we’ve created are failing in real time and affecting our society in vast and devastating ways. As designers\, isn’t it our moral obligation to create something that has a positive impact on the world? Consumers value the trust they give businesses and when companies design experiences that are ethical\, transparent\, and put the users’ interests first\, the results are better user experience and higher customer retention and loyalty.

SUMMARY:Defense Against the Dark Patterns
DESCRIPTION:We’ve all fallen victim to deceptive design at some point—whether it was that time we struggled to unsubscribe from a service we didn’t want anymore\, or when accidentally clicking on that pop-up ad led us down a rabbit hole of frustration. From the simply annoying to the outright egregious\, dark patterns intentionally trick us into doing things we don’t really want to do.But what makes these pesky patterns so effective in the first place? And how can we wield our influence as UXers to make the web—and\, as a result\, the world—a slightly better place? \n\n\n\nOur speaker will shine some light on the ethics of dark patterns\, how we as users can avoid and detect the pitfalls of this malpractice\, and what we can do as designers to take a stand again dark patterns when pressured by our companies.
